Sara
let down the tailgate of her truck and bounced onto the make-shift
seat. Crickets were chirping in the background; the soothing noise
forced her eyes shut. Laying on her back, she opened her eyes and
stared up at the vast amount of stars in the night sky. Hundreds of
stars spread out in a way only God could plan. "So Beautiful", she said
aloud
"If you're there long enough you may see a shooting star". Recognizing the voice, Sara wasn't too startled.
"Hey, Jacob", you could hear the smile in her voice. Closing her eyes she reveled in the moment...Jacob and the chirp of many crickets.
She felt the the truck shift slightly, which meant that he had joined her on the truck bed. She chose to open her eyes again, when she heard a voice near her head. Beside her was Jacob's head, but he was looking at the stars like she had been doing. He turned toward her just as she was about to look away.
"Hey, silly, I asked how your day was."
"It' was alright." Sara smiled to remove additional questions.
Placing her hands behind her head and forcing her gaze upward again, she could feel him getting ready to say something. She wasn't expecting what came, though.
"I pray your birthday comes and nobody calls, I pray you're flying high when you're engine stalls. I pray your dreams never come true!", he belted out in a purposely off-key voice.
Jacob and Sara had a secret way to tell each other when they were annoyed at the other. They would sing lyrics from the song "Pray For You"
Sara laughed out loud then sat up to where she was looking down at him. "Why am I annoying you?"
He mimicked her sitting position and looked her in the eyes, "Because you're lying about your day."
